RON WASHBURN Obituary

RONALD "RON" WASHBURN Hill City/Lenora/Leawood - Ronald "Ron" Washburn passed away February 5th at his care center in Leawood, KS where he had moved to be closer to his girls, Connie Washburn Faulkner and Shawna Washburn Dillon. Dad had been ill for a time but never lost his ornery, fun-loving spirit. We are very thankful that he had so many caregivers that watched over him through the great and no-so-great days. He started life in Culver, August 6, 1942 and went on to graduate from Menlo High School. Ron served in the Army as a Private in a military police capacity for 2 years. We called dad for "how-to" questions all the time; from fixing cars, which he learned at Beloit Technical School, to what to do when we couldn't light the BBQ grill. Tile placed, carpet laid, appliances fixed, plumbing re-done; he could do it all. Later in life, his passion became making children's furniture and gifting it to others. They eventually settled in Hill City while raising the girls. Many people knew Ron from OK Tire, The Lumber Yard, Elliott's Plumbing, the Ford Dealership, VanLoenen's Furniture store, being a volunteer fire-fighter, the City of Lewis, and the City of Lenora where he was when he retired. To keep busy, he worked in his wood shop and even delivered custom boats across the country. Ron is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Violet Washburn, 2 infant sisters, brothers Del Washburn of Hoxie and Ray Washburn of Colorado Springs. Surviving family include his two daughters and their husbands Kenny Faulkner (Shawnee, KS) and Kenny Dillon (Plattsmouth, NE); two grandchildren, Shawn Dillon of New Hampshire and Alijah and Katie Dillon and daughters Paisley and Harper of Arkansas; siblings Fred Washburn of St. Charles, MO, George Washburn of LaCrosse, Loren Washburn of Hoxie, and Patricia Washburn Jones, of Plattsmouth, NE. Many nieces and nephews and their families as well. Please stop by Cowboy Junction, Saturday, March 23, at 11:00 a.m., for an informal, come and go celebration of life with honor guard presentation of the flag to family at 12:00.
